Rosangela Serrano Morales

From a Brownie Girl Scout to a Platoon Commander in the Navy Junior ROTC today; Rosangela Serrano Morales has continuously given service to the communities she has lived in. She is a seventeen-year-old bilingual girl of Puerto Rican heritage who has learned to cross the cultural divide, to serve and to be part of a nation where diversity can no longer be ignored. She is a responsible, positive role model for youth.

Growing in an Army environment gave her the opportunity to become an ambassador of her culture to communities abroad. Rosangela has participated in celebrations across the world in honor of Hispanic heroes, planted trees, served lunch to sick soldiers in veteran hospitals, visited orphanages, entertained handicapped students, and supported veterans in her community. Rosangela was awarded the Tony Hernandez Medal in honor of a Marine killed in Iraq; she led his memorial service as part of a school commitment to honor servicemen. She is currently organizing activities to bridge the gap between her generation and senior veterans in her community. As an active member of her parish she has participated in youth conferences, teen retreats, food drives, and other community service activities lead by her church.

These activities are part of her continuous efforts to offer love and care to those members of her community whom otherwise would go unnoticed.

Rosangela is an honor student with great leadership skills, who strives to make a difference in her community. She plans to become a doctor to serve underprivileged children of third world countries who lack medical services. Rosangela leads by example and will become a beacon for her generation. Her unselfish dedication to serve those in need and to offer her time to reach out to her community makes her a CHCI Young Leader of Today.
