Higinio Turrubiates, Jr. May 2008
Higinio’s service extends beyond the walls of his school and encompasses the greater Brownsville community as well. He regularly volunteers at the Moody Children’s Clinic, has organized and participated in toy and food drives to assist needy families residing in the landfills of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, has for three consecutive years participated in the annual South Padre/Boca Chica Adopt-a-Beach clean-up, and is a March of Dimes fundraiser participant. Higinio’s true passion and welcoming spirit display themselves most poignantly through his volunteer work the past three years at the library aiding young patrons during the annual Dr. Seuss Night.
Although he chooses to occupy his free time engaged in a myriad of
volunteer activities, Higinio has never allowed his grades to falter
nor has he lost sight of his academic pursuits and goals. He
consistently ranks in the top 5% of his class and has been selected
for recognition as a Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership candidate.
Higinio’s commitment, dedication, and abundant service distinguish
him as a CHCI Young Leader of Today.
