LEGACY OF LEADERSHIP
From his native Robstown, Texas, to the halls of Congress in Washington, D.C., Solomón P. Ortiz was known as a fair-minded advocate who worked easily with colleagues on both sides of the aisle. For 28 years, Ortiz served as a member of the CHCI Board of Directors and as Board Chair from 1991-1992. Recognized as the "Dean of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus" until his retirement in 2010, Ortiz's work was rooted in the belief that education, opportunity, justice, and hard work are the keys to attaining the American Dream.
Today, Ortiz continues to inspire countless others through his tireless service to our community, his dedication to education attainment, and his advocacy for military personnel and our veterans.
CHCI has established a new Solomón P. Ortiz Scholarship Endowment fund to provide donors a personal way to honor the legacy of his work. The endowment provides a continuing and permanent source of scholarship funding at CHCI to help develop the next generation of Latino leaders.
