Help CHCI fund 62 more Associate’s Degree Scholarships
for low-income Latinos in 2013

Roy Nuñez -- November 2012 Scholar

Like many of CHCI’s scholarship recipients, Roy Nuñez grew up in poverty in predominantly impoverished Latino communities. But that hasn’t stopped him from pursuing a college education that will lead him to his dream. One day, Roy hopes to own a medical clinic that will help his local Hispanic community be better educated about nutrition and receive better healthcare so they can lead longer, healthier lives.

“Many underprivileged Latino families do not have the knowledge or the finances to maintain healthier lifestyle choices. My medical center will cater to Latino families in my community. I plan to teach people to implement nutritional strategies that will help many who are at risk for heart disease, diabetes, pulmonary complications, and ultimately save lives.” Learn more about Roy’s story

Roy Nuñez is like thousands of young American Latinos who dream of affording a college education so they can make a difference in their communities.

To accomplish his dream, Roy entered the biology program at Bronx Community College this fall to pursue an associate’s degree. He also takes entrepreneurial courses through a privately funded organization. And there’s one other important item Roy needs to pursue his dream—his scholarship provided by CHCI.
