CHCI Gathers Members of Congress, White House Staff to Discuss the Green Economy

"Latinos Leading in the Green Economy and Partnering for the Future"
On Tuesday, September 15, 2009, CHCI's Public Policy Conference will discuss how the future of the nation and the Latino community are tied to the growing green economy at the Closing Plenary: "Latinos Leading in the Green Economy and Partnering for the Future." Several Members of Congress, Nancy Sutley, Chair of the President's Council on Environmental Quality at the White House, and other national leaders on the issue are confirmed to attend.
"Green jobs have created a new economic frontier, and present an unprecedented opportunity for Latinos to position themselves at the forefront of our nation for decades to come," said Cong. Nydia M. Velázquez (NY-12), CHCI Chair. "CHCI is working to ensure the next generation of Latino leaders has the skills and knowledge needed to fill the jobs that will be in demand for the next two decades and beyond."
This session will also highlight Latino entrepreneurs, innovators, and initiatives spearheaded by Latinos across the country promoting a greener economy and green jobs. Help CHCI showcase Latino talent, innovation, and leadership in the new green economy. Latino Achievements in Innovation submissions are due August 21, 2009.
"I am proud to close this year's Conference by recognizing Latino innovation across the country," said Chair Velázquez. "While we explore the opportunities presented by the emerging green economy, we must also recognize Latino innovation, invention and entrepreneurship that have brought us to this point. We have a lot to be proud of."
