2012 Medallion of Excellence Honoree Lt. Col. Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch (ret.)
Born and raised in Laredo, Texas, Kickbusch entered the U.S. Army as an officer after graduating from Simmons University. During her 20 years of service, she broke barriers and set records in the U.S. military by earning the distinction of highest-ranking Hispanic woman in the Combat Support Field of the U.S. Army. Upon her retirement, she honored her mother’s dying wish and became an engaged community leader, founding the human development company, Educational Achievement Services, Inc., in 1996. Throughout her career, Kickbusch has shared her personal knowledge on how to become an effective leader in today’s global marketplace with hundreds of schools, corporations, and government institutions both in the United States and abroad.

Kickbusch will join fellow Medallion of Excellence honoree George Lopez as they are recognized at CHCI's 35th Anniversary Awards Gala to be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Thursday, September 13. Emmy® Award-winning Univision News Anchor María Elena Salinas will serve as celebrity host for the evening's festivities that will honor CHCI’s past, present, and future through entertainment, remarks by figures of national prominence, and recognition of CHCI's highest honors—the annual Chair's Award and the CHCI Medallion of Excellence awardees.
CHCI’s Annual Awards Gala is the signature event in CHCI’s Hispanic Heritage Month Events that include the Public Policy Conference and Reyes of Comedy. It also launches the national celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed from September 15 through October 15. Join these honorable guests and other Latino leaders, celebrities, and supporters for an evening that promotes a positive image of Latinos by showcasing the many impressive accomplishments of the Hispanic community, particularly in the areas of philanthropy, community service, and leadership.
