CHCI Announces PepsiCo and PepsiCo Foundation as Host Sponsors of its 35th Anniversary Awards Gala in 2012

Global food and beverage company PepsiCo and its philanthropic anchor, the PepsiCo Foundation, will serve as Host Sponsors of the 35th Anniversary Awards Gala on Thursday, September 13, 2012 in Washington, D.C.  The sponsorship is part of PepsiCo’s Hispanic corporate initiative, La Promesa de PepsiCo, which is inspired by the company’s mission of Performance with Purpose, and focused on helping build stronger Latino communities by advancing Latino leadership nationwide.  The exclusive media partner for this year's gala is Univision, a long-time CHCI mission supporter.  CHCI has partnered with Univision in its Es El Momento education initiative since its launch three years ago.   (More)

CHCI President & CEO Esther Aguilera Receives Cross of Isabel la Catolica from King of Spain

On March 28, President & CEO Esther Aguilera was bestowed the Cross of Isabel la Catolica by the Ambassador of Spain Jorge Dezcallar at his residence in Washington, D.C.  The honor was decreed by Royal Proclamation from King Juan Carlos I of Spain.

“It has been a great joy to travel to Spain, host the Crown Prince Felipe de Borbón at our annual awards gala, and work to secure substantive partnerships that create international education opportunities for young Hispanics,” said Aguilera.  (More)


Young Latino Leaders Summit Series Panelists Announced and Descriptions Available

On Monday, CHCI Graduate Fellows will be hosting this year's Young Latino Leaders Summit Series.  Descriptions of each summit topic are now available along with the release of the expert panelists who will attend and engage in these timely discussions that affect the Latino community.

This event, which will be held on April 16 at the Rayburn House Office Building, is the culmination of the graduate fellows' public policy research project.  Interested in hearing the timely research topics and resulting policy discussions?  Register now to attend specific summits.


Expert Panelists Reinforce Need for Educated Latinos During San Antonio Forum
On March 30, CHCI hosted its second education policy forum of 2012 at The Museo Alameda in San Antonio, Texas. The event—Keeping the Promise: Partnerships for Latino Education Success—brought together more than 100 stakeholders, who included educators, students, elected officials, corporate and nonprofit leaders, celebrities, and media. The event was in partnership with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Excelencia in Education, and NALEO, with the “Continuing the Conversation” reception hosted by Comcast/NBCUniversal/Telemundo. Dell Helps Latino Students Gain Competitive Advantage

Partnership with CHCI Provides Notebook Computer to Scholarship Winners for Fifth Consecutive Year

CHCI sent notebook computers to 100 of its 2011 scholarship award winners during the month of February through the continuation of a long-standing partnership with Dell, Inc. The company has supported CHCI scholarship winners since 2007, donating more than 500 computers valued at almost $550,000 over the past five years.

“With the many obstacles Latino students face in finishing their post-secondary education, the commitment from Dell to support our mission gives Latino college students the technological capabilities to be successful in their studies,” said Esther Aguilera, CHCI President & CEO.  (More)


Applications Now Being Accepted for CHCI’s High School Latino Leaders in D.C. Program

Know a high school student in one of the following locations—Chicago, Dallas, Miami, New York City, Phoenix, San Antonio, the San Joaquin Valley, or Southern California?  Then encourage them to apply for CHCI’s summer high school program, High School Latino Leaders in D.C.  The program, which will take place July 22-27, 2012, is completely free of charge to all selected student participants.

Through its partnership with State Farm Insurance Companies and the Close Up Foundation, CHCI will bring approximately 40 Latino high school students to D.C. to spend five days learning about how the Federal Government works, meeting important leaders, visiting historic sites and developing a deeper understanding of how they can affect positive change in their communities and their nation.  Detailed eligibility requirements can be found online, as well as the online application for your specific areaHurry!  Applications must be submitted by April 27, 2012.  Please share this information with any young Latino/a who may be interested in this transformative experience in D.C.

2011 Fall Congressional Internship Program (CIP)

CHCI is now accepting applications for its nationally-acclaimed Congressional Internship Program for the fall semester. Selected individuals benefit from an unmatched experience where they will learn first-hand about our nation’s legislative processes. This PAID, 12-week internship is available for college undergraduates enrolled full time in an academic institution. Students of ALL majors that have an interest in the development of public policy and who have demonstrated leadership abilities should apply.
