Washington D.C. R2L Promotes Financial Literacy

On Wednesday, October 21, 2009 R2L headed to Capitol Hill to partner with Visa, Inc. to kick off "Financial Soccer" with Mexican soccer legend Jorge Campos. The event was held in the Gold Room of the Rayburn House Office Building.  Almost 100 students were present for the launch of the FIFA World Cup branded educational video game that combines soccer with an award-winning financial literacy curriculum to create an innovative approach for helping students and adults learn about personal finance.

Cong. Ruben Hinojosa (TX-15) gave opening remarks and Cong. Ed Pastor (AZ-4), Cong. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-18), and U.S. Treasurer Rosa Rios shared brief words of encouragement.

With the support of USA Funds, AT&T, Visa, Inc., Univision, and State Farm Insurance Companies, R2L empowers Latino high school students to attend college and touches hundreds of students nationally each year. The program involves one-day workshops across the country in the most heavily populated Latino urban centers such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, and San Antonio, and culminates with a Washington, D.C. two-day workshop during CHCI's Public Policy Conference each September.
