CHCI hosted a Tribute Reception on November 15, 2012 to recognize the extraordinary contributions of four outgoing Members of Congress - CHCI Chair Rep. Charles A. Gonzalez, Rep. Silvestre Reyes, Hon. Dennis Cardoza, and Rep. Joe Baca. Speaking at the event were House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, Rep. Jose Serrano, and CHCI Chair Designate Rep. The Fall 2012 Congressional Interns celebrated the end of their CHCI experience with an intimate farewell luncheon with their sponsor, Walmart, and supervisors from their congressional placements on November 14, 2012. The event was held at the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center and the guests heard words of advice and encouragement from Walmart Representative Jason Hill, Director, Federal Government Relations, and from keynote speaker CHCI Chair Rep. CHCI is seeking full-time college undergraduate students to participate in the 2013 Summer Congressional Internship Program. Selected students will receive an unmatched experience learning first-hand about our nation’s legislative process working for a member of Congress, as well as stipends, housing and round-trip airfare. |CHCI’s Ready to Lead reaches out to nearly 200 students at UC Merced|
Participants representing California’s central valley hailed from ten local high schools to attend the November 17, 2012 Ready to Lead event at the University of California, Merced. Nearly 200 eager students joined CHCI and received training on college admissions, mentorship and encouragement in order to successfully graduate from high school and obtain a postsecondary education.
