CHCI Welcomes New Internship, Fellowship Classes to Capitol Hill

2010 Inaugural CHCI Walmart Fall Congressional Internship Class Joins 2010-2011 Fellows for Once-in-a-Lifetime Washington, D.C. Experience

CHCI is proud to announce the recent arrival of its newest program classes to Washington, D.C., including its first-ever class of Fall Congressional Interns thanks to the support of Walmart.

CHCI welcomed its inaugural Fall Congressional Internship class, on Monday, August 30, 2010. The Fall CIP class consists of 16 interns from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, pursuing 10 different academic majors ranging from political science and education, to broadcast journalism and fine arts. The class also represents a variety of ethnic backgrounds, creating one of the most dynamic and diverse internship classes to date.

Congressional Interns participate in weekly CHCI leadership and professional development sessions and meet with corporate representatives, national elected officials and foreign dignitaries. They are also required to engage in a community service project while in Washington, D.C.

CHCI's leadership development programs were named one of the Top Twenty Leadership Programs for Latinos by Latino Leaders magazine in 2009.

CHCI also welcomed the 2010-2011 class of Graduate (GFP) and Public Policy Fellows (PPF), on Monday, August 16, 2010. The Public Policy Fellows represent nine different Hispanic heritages and come from 11 different states with academic majors ranging from international studies to marketing. The Graduate Fellows hold PhD's and JD degrees, represent five different ethnic backgrounds, and come from four different states across the nation, including Puerto Rico.

CHCI's Fellowship programs allow students to gain hands-on experience in national public policy by placing fellows to work in congressional offices and federal agencies, in areas of interest such as international affairs, economic development, health and education policy, housing, or local government. Fellows gain enhanced leadership abilities and professional skills and are required to conduct a community service project in Washington, D.C.

CHCI would like to thank all of its corporate sponsors.  It is because of their support that CHCI is able to achieve its mission to Develop the Next Generation of Latino Leaders.
