CHCI’s Public Policy Conference Closing Luncheon on September 13 will be a powerful ending to a meaningful public policy event.  First, CHCI is proud to honor two outstanding individuals who are national advocates for the Latino community in their own unique ways.  Orson Aguilar, Executive Director of The Greenlining Institute, will be presented with the 2011 Distinguished Alumnus Medallion of Excellence Award, and Writer/Director Chris Weitz will be honored with CHCI’s 2011 Excellence in Service Award.

After the awards presentations, Reps. Raúl Grijalva and Nydia M. Velázquez will host the Closing Luncheon.  As the United States aspires to reach a national goal of 60 percent higher education attainment, this timely session will engage leading education experts in a dynamic dialogue on how to increase Latino education attainment, which is imperative to reaching the national goal.  “Keeping the Promise of Education” feature Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education and Allan Golston, President, U.S. Programs, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
