First Lady Michelle Obama to Attend CHCI’s Public Policy Conference

First Lady Michelle Obama will address the Morning Plenary -- America's Promise: The Impact of Health Care Reform at CHCI's 2010 Public Policy Conference on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 9:00 to 10:45 am at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. She will deliver remarks about the Let’s Move! initiative and its goal of solving the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation.



U.S. Secretaries Gary Locke and Ken Salazar  to  Address CHCI's 2010 Public Policy Conference

Secretaries Gary Locke and Ken Salazar will join Reps. Henry Cuellar and Jose E. Serrano at the Closing Luncheon -- Building Bridges: America's Role and Responsibility in the Americas, on Tuesday, September 14, from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

On Monday, September 13, at 3:00 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C., U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano will address comprehensive immigration reform at CHCI's 2010 Public Policy Conference.




Members of Congress and expert panelists will lead in-depth discussions on education, health, corporate responsibility, labor and more during CHCI's Latino Leaders Summit Series, a highlight of CHCI's 2010 Public Policy Conference.

Xavier Becerra at the Opening Plenary -- America's Future: Economic Prosperity -- on Monday, September 13. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius is confirmed to give the keynote address at the Morning Plenary -- America's Promise: The Impact of Healthcare Reform -- on Tuesday, September 14.


Join CHCI this September for the 2010 Public Policy Conference as we celebrate the 200th anniversary of independence for many Central and South American countries and the 400th anniversary of the founding of CHCI Board Chair Nydia VelázquezSanta Fe in 1610 - History and Heritage. The contributions, struggles, challenges, and successes of the Latino community across the nation will be highlighted throughout the week - the American Dream.

Held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center - NEW LOCATION - in Washington, D.C., on September 12-14, 2010, Members of Congress and national experts will lead discussions on corporate responsibility, education, economy and workforce, financial services, green economy, health and health care reform, immigration reform, international relations, labor, redistricting, and technology.

For the second year, CHCI is calling for submissions to showcase Latino talent, innovation, and leadership in the green economy. Recognition will take place at the Closing Plenary Session, "Green Economy in our Hemisphere" on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Submissions are due by August 20, 2010.

An important component of the Conference, the Ready to Lead (R2L) program, also educates and engages high
school students in policy discussions while preparing them for college.  Job and internship seekers visit CareerLider LIVE to interact with recruiters about employment opportunities and strategic initiatives spearheaded by participating companies and organizations.  

Each year CHCI's Public Policy Conference draws national leaders from the government, corporate, labor and non-profit communities for discourse on the most important issues facing Latinos in America. Don't miss your opportunity to become a part of history.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from September 15 - October 15.  For CHCI, it also represents an opportunity to highlight its competitive and nationally acclaimed Latino youth leadership development programs, including its Public Policy and Graduate and Young Professional Fellowship programs, Congressional Internship Program, Scholarship Program, and a college readiness program-- Ready to Lead (R2L) for high school students.
