SPECIAL GUESTS
CHI CHI RODRIGUEZ brought to you by
The only Puerto Rican ever inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, Juan "Chi Chi" Rodriguez is one of the most popular and recognizable figures in sports. A 25-year 50+ year member of PGA Tour and a 22-year 24 year member of the Champions Tour, his successful career in professional golf began when he won his first professional event in 1963 Denver Open and spans nearly half a decade. During his long career he won 8 PGA and 22 Senior Tournaments. He is best known for his signature "Toreader Dance," an act he developed in which he would make-believe that an archived birdie was a "bull" and his putter was a "sword." He then would use his putter to terminate the "bull." In addition to his participation on the 1973 U.S. Ryder Cup team, Chi Chi has represented Puerto Rico on 12 World Cup teams.
A renowned humanitarian, Chi Chi has raised more than $5 million for the Chi Chi Rodriguez Foundation through his "Chi Chi and the Bear" and "Chi Chi and the Zinger" annual gold outings. In 1986 he was honored to receive the prestigious Horatio Alger Award. Founded in 1979, the Chi Chi Rodriguez Foundation serves at-risk, inner-city youths by assisting them to improve their self-esteem, character, work-ethic, social adjustment, and academic performance.

EVENT BACKGROUND
Each May, avid golf players from across the nation join CHCI for its annual Fiesta de Golf Scholarship Challenge held in Washington, D.C. This event, now in its 14th year, provides an opportunity for community and industry leaders to interact socially while raising money to support CHCI's mission to develop the next generation of Latino leaders. Proceeds benefit CHCI's Scholarship Awards Program which provides critical assistance to Latino youth to pursue undergraduate and post-graduate degrees. Last year more than $280,000 was raised in support of the program through the tournament. To learn more about the Fiesta de Golf Scholarship Challenge, click here.
