Voted one of the most influential Hispanics in America and awarded the Ruben Salazar Award by The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), Paul Rodriguez has remained a constant force in his community and the world of comedy.

Rodriguez has been making audiences laugh all over the world (in Spanish and English) for nearly three decades with his unique brand of humor that is a perfect blend of his Latin heritage and the American dream. As an actor and comedian Paul Rodriguez’s multi-faceted career includes starring roles and featured appearances in over 45 films and countless television series and comedy specials.

Rodriguez can be seen in his latest show, “Mis Videos Locos with Paul Rodriguez,” every Sunday night (7pm EST/PST) on Tr3s: MTV, Música y Más. The hit series, now in its second season, features never-before-seen footage of people from all around the world engaging in the wildest and often the stupidest behavior imaginable – but with a twist. With the power of green screen technology, Rodriguez steps into the videos to join in on the crazy antics - adding his sharp witted commentary every step of the way.

As an accomplished writer, director and producer for television, motion pictures and feature shows, Rodriguez has several hit projects to his credit including the comedy concert film “The Original Latin Kings of Comedy,” which he executive-produced and starred in along with Cheech Marin, George Lopez and Carlos Mencia; the feature film “A Million to Juan,” which he also wrote, directed and starred in; six comedy specials for HBO including “Loco Slam, Live in San Quentin” and “Idiots and Armadillos,” which he also executive produced. In addition to his many hit comedy specials in English, Rodriguez has the distinguished credit of performing the first-ever one-hour standup comedy special in Spanish, “Dime Con Quien Andas,” for Telemundo.

In addition to being a revolutionary and enduring force in the world of comedy, throughout his career Rodriguez has remained involved with various charitable, civic and educational organizations including the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, The Leukemia Society; and he was recently appointed to the California Film Commission. In addition, as part owner of the world famous Laugh Factory, Rodriguez has participated in the club’s annual free Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for the underprivileged for over 25 years.

Shayla Rivera

Comedian and Scientist

Shayla Rivera has been named "Funniest Latina Comedian" by the prestigious organization "Latin 2015", had a one-woman show “Rocket Science and Salsa,” directed by Debbie Allen, and has appeared on numerous TV networks and TV programs including “Girls Behaving Badly,” “Ultimate Revenge” and "Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen."  In 2009,  Shayla appeared in the Comedy Central special “Comedy Rehab” with Paul Rodriguez.  In 2007, Shayla hosted the 13 episode TV series “You’re Not The Man I Married” for the Lifetime Real Women Network.   The series aired again in 2010.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Rivera grew up with an avid interest in science, machinery and fixing things.  Her family always encouraged her to go to college and have a professional career. Rivera attended Texas A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering. Then she joined McDonnell-Douglas Space Systems at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, working on NASA’s shuttle and space station programs for the next eight years.  Stymied by a lack of enthusiasm for her field, Rivera left to pursue her abiding interest in psychology and became a motivational speaker.  She also worked extensively as a corporate trainer, holding seminars on stress management for executives at companies around the country.  It was while she was conducting seminars that Rivera discovered her comedic skills.  Rivera signed up for a weekend class on stand-up comedy, at the end of which she performed a five-minute routine.  It was a rousing success and a personal turning point.  “I knew I’d found what I was looking for,” Rivera recalled.

Almost immediately Rivera became a regular at the Comedy Showcase in Houston, where she honed her act for the next four years.  She gave up her day job and went on the road.  Still, Rivera found her new career floundering.  “As a scientist, I had to compete and prove myself in a male-dominated profession, but I felt accepted as an equal,” Rivera observed.  “In comedy, I found ,well, you can imagine..."  She persevered, continued to work widely on the comedy circuit, and in 1999 moved to Los Angeles with the goal of going on television.  She used her experiences to create the hit one-woman show “Rocket Science and Salsa,” in which Rivera earned a "Best Lead Actress" nomination by the NAACP Theater Awards, as well as Debbie Allen a nomination for "Best Choreography" for the same.  She has appeared on television in "Extreme Fakeover", "National Lampoon’s Funny Money", “Funny is Funny" among others.  She was a guest on “The Dennis Miller Show,” “The Roseanne Show,”“The Martin Short Show" and featured in the "Paul Rodriguez Latin All Stars."  She has also headlined on entertainment programs for Univision, Galavision and on “The Latino Comedy Jam” for Telemundo.

Rivera continues to perform live stand-up comedy nationwide and is very proud of her tours to entertain US troops in Iraq.  In addition, she applies her expertise as a motivational speaker to help many non-profit organizations, charitable and educational programs.  In recent years, Rivera has hosted many events, such as award shows, gala’s, fundraisers and festivals.  Shayla says “my number one goal is to inspire, whether through laughter or my keynotes.”
