KEEPING THE PROMISE: EDUCATING OUR FUTURE WORKFORCE AND GROWING CONSUMER BASE
Today one in three entrants into the U.S. labor force is Hispanic, and by 2025 Hispanics will be one of every two new workers entering the workforce. Without significant change in college attainment rates, the United States will face a shortage of 23 million college-educated adults in the workforce in the next 15 years – a crippling blow to U.S. economic competitiveness. Hispanics will obviously prove to be a key in meeting future workforce needs. Moreover, over the next five years the Hispanic consumer market is expected to expand to $750 billion per year.

In this session, panelists will provide action steps needed by multiple stakeholders and educational partners to increase Latino student access and success in the current political, economic, and educational climate to ensure that our Hispanic students are prepared to fill future workforce needs, and sustain the U.S. economy.

KEEPING THE PROMISE:  PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS IN LATINO EDUCATION
The importance of public-private partnerships in education has increased as local governments struggle to deal with shrinking public budgets. Many cities and municipalities have turned to innovative partnerships agreements between public schools systems and foundations, non-profit organizations, corporations, universities and other entities to create a new model for public education.

Panelists will discuss public-private partnerships that have developed to help Latino students achieve educational success, challenges that persist and ways to duplicate successful partnerships across the country.
