Events Overview

CHCI Hispanic Heritage Month Events*

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute's (CHCI) Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) events are a 34-year  tradition. The Public Policy Conference and Annual Awards Gala raise 57 percent of the CHCI's revenue for its education and leadership development programs: scholarships, internships, and fellowships.  The CHCI Annual Awards Gala is the hallmark event during HHM in Washington, D.C., and serves as the unifying event for the Hispanic American community. The Gala program each year is developed around a unifying theme that helps to highlight CHCI, its mission and programs, the annual Chair's Award, and the CHCI Medallion of Excellence honorees.

CHCI Fiesta de Golf Scholarship Challenge

Now in its 15th year, CHCI hosts its annual Fiesta de Golf Scholarship Challenge, gathering golfers from across the nation at the Andrews Air Force Base's prestigious courses in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. This event provides an opportunity for national leaders and CHCI supporters to interact socially while raising money for a worthy cause -- scholarships. Fiesta de Golf has grown in participation and revenue each year, benefiting CHCI's youth leadership development programs and educational services.

The Chair's Award(s) is presented each year to an individual who has dedicated his or her public or private career to improving the lives of Hispanic Americans. The honoree is chosen wholly at the Chair's discretion.  CHCI Chair's Award Recipients.

The Medallion of Excellence is presented each year to an individual (one male and one female) who conducts himself or herself in an exemplary manner and who can serve as a role model and standard-bearer for the Latino community, particularly Latino youth. The individual selected is not limited to any particular field of endeavor or voluntary pursuit, but must have at least 15 years of solid leadership and community involvement. The qualifying factor is community involvement through the initiation or support of programs that benefit the Hispanic community as a whole. CHCI Medallion of Excellence Awardees.

The Medallion of Excellence for a Distinguished Alumni recognizes an alumni who has made an outstanding contribution to the Latino Community and who has thereby achieved distinction. This prestigious annual award is meant to highlight the impact of CHCI's programs and the prominence of its alumni. Those considered are judged on the full range of their professional accomplishments.

Alumni must have graduated from the Fellowship program at least 20 years or the Internship program 15 years from the date of nomination. Alumni put forward nominees each year. Once the slate is complete, Alumni vote. Awardees must be present at the Gala to receive the honor.  CHCI Distinguished Alumni Award Winners.
