CHCI BOARD CONVENES IN RIO GRANDE VALLEY

McAllen, TX – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s (CHCI) board of directors convened in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas to discuss a two-year strategic plan for the Institute at its annual board retreat on February 21-25. Throughout the week, CHCI board members – including 13 confirmed Hispanic Members of the U.S. Congress –attended various functions to interact with community and business leaders in an effort to learn more about the issues impacting the local Hispanic community.   In conjunction with the retreat, CHCI sponsored a fundraiser at the home of Mr. Alonzo Cantu, President and CEO of Cantu Construction Company on Thursday, February 22. Proceeds will benefit CHCI’s summer internship, nine-month fellowship program and scholarship awards for Hispanic youth nationwide.

“CHCI is pleased to be in the Rio Grande Valley, with its rich heritage and culture, to promote our mission of developing future Hispanic leaders. We thank Congressman Rubén Hinojosa for his generosity and hospitality, “ said CHCI Chairman Silvestre Reyes (D-TX).

CHCI, a non-profit and non-partisan educational 501(c)(3) organization, provides leadership development programs and educational services for Hispanic college and postgraduate students. The 51-member CHCI board of directors is comprised of Hispanic Members of the U.S. Congress, non-profit leaders, elected officials, and corporate executives.
