CHCI SPONSORS EDUCATIONAL FORUM FOR HISPANICS
Edinburg, TX
– The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) sponsored an
educational forum at the University of Texas, Pan American for area high
school and college students, parents, and educators on Wednesday,
February 21, 2001. Issues discussed included CHCI’s internship and
nine-month fellowship programs, scholarship awards and other
opportunities available for young Latino students in Washington, D.C.
Panelists, including five Hispanic Members of the U.S. Congress,
discussed their experiences in public service and the importance of
CHCI’s programs in fostering future leaders. “A key priority for
CHCI in 2001 is to expand its efforts to serve Latino communities
nationwide. Since 1978, CHCI has been developing future Hispanic leaders
and we are eager to share our resources to Rio Grande Valley,” said
CHCI Executive Director Ingrid M. Duran. Panelists included Hon.
Rubén Hinojosa (D-TX); Hon. Silvestre Reyes (D-TX), CHCI Chairman; Hon.
Grace CHCI, a non-profit and
non-partisan educational 501(c)(3) organization, provides leadership
development programs and educational services for Hispanic college and
postgraduate students. The 51-member CHCI board of directors is
comprised of Hispanic Members of the U.S. Congress, non-profit leaders,
