CHCI SELECTS 2001 SUMMER INTERNSWASHINGTON,
D.C. –The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), the
nation’s leading Hispanic educational organization, has selected the
30 participants for its 2001 Summer Internship Program. The interns were
chosen from highly competitive pool of nationwide applicants. Since
1988, CHCI’s Summer Internship program has provided Hispanic youth
with life and career opportunities while in Washington, DC. “CHCI’s
goal is to provide young Latinos with networking opportunities, and
access to resources for success,” said CHCI Executive Director Ingrid
Duran. “The internship program has been nationally recognized for
providing a specially crafted curriculum of workshops, presentations,
and seminars that encourage our students to explore leadership styles
and professional strategies.” CHCI offers currently enrolled Hispanic undergraduate students, who have completed at least one year of college, a two-month paid internship (mid-June to mid-August) in the nation’s capital. Upon their arrival, interns attend a one-week orientation that prepares them for their summer experience, including workshops on topics such as team building, prejudice reduction, conflict resolution, the culture of Capitol Hill, and ethics in government and the workplace. Interns then begin working full-time in the congressional office (U.S. House or Senate) to which they are assigned where they perform duties such as responding to constituent correspondence, communications, attending legislative hearings, and other administrative duties. CHCI, a non-profit and non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization, provides educational programs for Hispanic college and postgraduate students. The 51-member CHCI board of directors is comprised of Hispanic members of the U.S. Congress, non-profit leaders, elected officials, and corporate executives. For more information on CHCI, call 1-800-EXCEL DC or visit our Web site, www.chci.org. ## 2001 Summer Interns - Name, Placement, Hometown
