CHCI REPORT TO GUIDE NATIONAL LEADERS

Public Policy Report Issues Recommendations on
Topics Important to Hispanics

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) released its public policy report which provides members of Congress with an increased awareness of the specific needs, concerns, and interests of the Hispanic community. The publication, The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute 2000 Issues Conference Policy Recommendations, is a byproduct of the CHCI 2000 Issues Conference held on September 13-14, 2000. The formal recommendations were documented by leading authorities in their respective fields.

“The recommendations will serve as a guide for future legislation and policies, thus ensuring that Hispanics are included in America's agenda for the 21st Century,” said CHCI Chairman Silvestre Reyes (D-TX). “The annual public policy report plays a crucial role in addressing issues of concern for Hispanics with the White House, federal agencies, and Congress.”

The topics covered in the publication include telecommunications, social security, census and civil rights, health, education and training, arts and entertainment, immigration, international relations, business and economic development, and energy.
