CHCI
Celebrates Milestone Anniversary
This
year marks the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s (CHCI) 25th
anniversary as a pioneer in providing leadership development
opportunities to Hispanic youth nationwide. The official
commemoration of this milestone will take place in September at CHCI’s
Hispanic Heritage Month events in Washington, DC. “We
are proud of our rich history and long tradition of developing
generations of Latino leaders,” said CHCI President and CEO Ingrid M.
Durán. “CHCI looks forward to highlighting our countless success
stories and celebrating our landmark anniversary with our many friends
and supporters.” CHCI’s
week of activities begins with its 2002 Issues Conference on September
16-17 at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Participants
will once again have the opportunity to interact and discuss timely and
relevant topics with Hispanic Members of Congress. Most
importantly, conference participants and panelists have the opportunity
to develop public policy recommendations. In addition, CHCI has added a
youth workshop, complementing the youth town hall, to the second day of
the conference. CHCI,
with the collaboration of Jeff Valdez of SiTV, will also host its
first-annual Reyes of Comedy Night on Tuesday, September 17 at the
prestigious Kennedy Center. The comedy night will feature well-known and
rising performers who will draw from their diverse experiences and
backgrounds to present a comedic portrait of Latino life in the U.S. Capping
off the week is CHCI’s 25th Annual Gala, the nation’s most
prestigious Hispanic Heritage Month event, on Wednesday, September 18 at
the MCI Center. The gala is CHCI’s principal fundraising event with
all proceeds benefiting Hispanic youth. This year, CHCI will award the
Honorable Henry Cisneros with its Medallion of Excellence for Leadership
and Emilio and Gloria Estefan with its Medallion of Excellence for
Community Service. CHCI,
a non-profit and non-partisan educational 501(c)(3) organization,
provides leadership development programs and educational services for
Hispanic high school, college and postgraduate students. The CHCI board
of directors is comprised of Hispanic Members of the U.S. Congress,
non-profit leaders, and corporate executives. For more information on
