CHCI, Latino Leaders Celebrate New Year and Raise More than $140,000 For YouthLos
Angeles, CA – Many of the nation’s top Hispanic leadership
celebrated the New Year in style at a fundraiser benefiting the
Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) on Thursday, January 31,
2002. The event, held at the famed Rumba Room in Los Angeles, CA, was
attended by more than 400 guests who interacted with Hispanic Members of
the U.S. Congress, media personalities, local and national community
leaders, and corporate executives. Proceeds from the event will benefit
CHCI’s summer internship, fellowship, and scholarship programs for
Hispanic youth. “On
behalf of CHCI, I give a heartfelt thanks to everyone, specifically our
corporate sponsors, who helped make this event a tremendous
success,” said CHCI President and CEO Ingrid M. Durán. “Tonight, we
raised more than $130,000 which will help to ensure that CHCI continues
to provide Hispanic youth nationwide with the tools necessary to compete
in today’s competitive environment.” CHCI,
a non-profit and non-partisan educational 501(c)(3) organization,
provides leadership development programs and educational services for
Hispanic college and postgraduate students. The CHCI board of directors
is comprised of Hispanic Members of the U.S. Congress, non-profit
leaders, and corporate executives. For more information on CHCI, visit
