CHCI Fellows Graduate    

On Wednesday, May 22, 2002 , CHCI held a graduation ceremony and reception on Capitol Hill for its 2001-2002 Fellows.  Presiding over the ceremony were CHCI Chairman Silvestre Reyes and President and CEO Ingrid M. Durán, who were joined by prominent guests, including several Members of Congress, who came to congratulate the fellows on their achievements.  

“I speak for myself and the rest of the CHCI staff when I say that we have been greatly impressed by the fellows and their eagerness to learn and grow from this experience,” said Durán. “We are extremely proud of their accomplishments and know they will take what they learned in DC to improve their respective communities.”  

Chairman Reyes commended them for their outstanding work mentoring students from Calvary Multicultural School and hosting educational workshops for local residents through their community service project. He also spoke of their role as future leaders of the country. “The fellows leave with a renewed sense of hope for what their generation can achieve for our nation.  I commend them for their hard word and dedication to the Hispanic community,” said Chairman Reyes. “They truly are the best the Hispanic community has to offer.”  

Tiana Murillo, a fellow, spoke on behalf of her class.  She a thanked each fellow individually for their contributions to the program and for their friendship. “You are not only among the most talented in the Latino community, I am certain that you are some of the brightest young minds at-large. Your insightfulness, your creativity, your intellect, your sincerity of purpose, and the sheer goodness of your character have never failed to impress or inspire me, and I have all the faith in the world that you'll do extraordinary things.”
