LLEGÓ Awards Durán Premio Dignidad Award

Washington, DC – Ingrid M. Durán, the President and CEO of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), received the Premio Dignidad Award by the National Latina/o Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Organization (LLEGÓ) on Saturday, April 26, 2003 at their annual dinner in Washington, DC.  LLEGÓ’s Premio Dignidad Award, given to elected officials and community leaders was presented to Durán for her advocacy work on gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues as head of CHCI and as an appointee to the President's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. 

“I am truly honored and greatly humbled to be given this prestigious award. Through my work with CHCI, I strive to show our young leaders healthy examples of successful gay Latino/a role models and encourage them to be supportive of anyone questioning their sexual identity,” said Durán. 

LLEGÓ is the nation's only organization devoted to organizing Latina/o LGBT communities on a local, regional, national and international level. A nonprofit group, LLEGÓ addresses social, health, and political disparities based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and ethnicity affecting the Latina/o LGBT community. LLEGÓ is home to various programs providing infrastructure development to Latina/o LGBT communities in the United States and Latin America.

CHCI, a non-profit, non-partisan, educational 501(c)(3) organization, provides educational programs for Hispanic college and postgraduate students.
