Duran Named to Hispanic Business 100 Most Influential HispanicsWASHINGTON, DC – OCT. 16, 2003) – Ingrid M. Duran, president and CEO of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), was named to the Hispanic Business 100 Most Influential Hispanics list featured in the magazine’s October 2003 issue. Selection of individuals on the list commences with nominations from readers, web site visitors, contributing editors, writers and magazine staff. Since becoming CHCI’s executive director in 1998, Duran has transformed CHCI into the leading Hispanic educational non-profit organization in the nation, raising more than $3.1 million in 2003 for Latino youth. Under her leadership, CHCI has added two nationally recognized programs to its services to the Latino community – the annual Scholarship Awards and the National Housing Initiative. “It is an honor to be recognized by Hispanic Business Magazine, a publication that is widely regarded by the Hispanic community,” said Duran. “I am equally honored to serve the Latino community in my present capacity at CHCI. Through our work we are ensuring that America has a pool of committed activists with a desire to give back to their communities.” CHCI’s leadership development programs – including its summer internship, nine-month public policy fellowship and scholarship awards – have grown substantially during Duran’s tenure and are widely known for providing Latino youth with unique opportunities to explore and foster their leadership potential. A native of Los Angeles, California, Ms. Durán served as Washington director of the National Association of Latino Appointed and Elected Officials prior to taking her position at CHCI. She is a native of California and was raised in Wichita, Kansas. Ms. Durán served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps where she attained Honor Graduate standing in the Communications Center Operator School in Twentynine Palms, CA in 1987. Ms. Durán earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Park College in Arlington, Virginia. She currently resides in Falls Church, VA with her partner. ###
