Los Angeles is Last Stop in CHCI’s 2005 Multi-City Outreach

Numerous Corporations and VIPs Join Fundraiser

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) continued its regional recruitment and fundraising efforts in the Los Angeles area.  The organization will hold a student program at the University of Southern California’s (USC) Davidson Conference Center on S. Figeroa Street, and a VIP fundraising reception at the Los Angeles City Club on S. Grand Avenue.  Reception co-chairs include CHCI Chair the Hon. Grace Flores Napolitano (CA-38), Hon. Linda Sanchez (CA-39), Hon. Joe Baca (CA-43), Hon. Hilda Solis (CA-32) and Mr. Richard Amador, CHARO Community Development.

Nearly 100 guests will join Members of Congress, CHCI Board Members, and other local elected officials, corporate executives and alumni from the region for a benefit reception to support CHCI’s programs for Latino youth.  CHCI will also be donating 25 percent of the proceeds raised from this event to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

“For over 25 years, CHCI has been providing youth leadership programs to develop the next generation of Latino leaders,” remarked President and CEO Esther Aguilera.  “To achieve our mission, CHCI visits various Latino communities nationwide to speak to students about these tremendous opportunities and to grow our fundraising base.  Thanks to our sponsors support, tonight’s event provides an opportunity to come together to support future Latino leaders, and is only one part of a multi-city outreach effort this year that has included events in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.”

Corporation and organizations that support CHCI’s prestigious programs include Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Southern Gas, Southern California Edison, Nielsen Media, Walt Disney, and Metropolitan Water District, among others.

CHCI’s student outreach programs have grown with support from Yum! Brands, Inc.  They continue to support CHCI’s ongoing recruitment efforts and are again key sponsors for today’s leadership discussions held at USC.  Congressional and local leaders will join the panel to discuss CHCI’s highly acclaimed programs:  the Public Policy Fellowship, Summer Internship, Annual Scholarship, and HOGAR Housing Fellowship.

CHCI, a nonprofit and nonpartisan 501 (c)(3) organization, provides educational programs for Hispanic college and postgraduate students.  The CHCI board of directors is comprised of Hispanic Members of Congress, nonprofit leaders, and corporate executives.  For more information on CHCI programs or their outreach events, call (202) 543-1771 or visit www.chci.org.
