CHCI ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD LEADERSHIP

Rep. Grace Napolitano set to lead an accomplished group of legislators, community activists, and business leaders.

Washington, DC – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) today announced the appointment of Congresswoman Grace Napolitano as the new Chair of its Board of Directors. Napolitano’s unanimous election to the post signals the Board’s confidence in her vision and dedication to CHCI’s mission.

“The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute is an invaluable group in the Hispanic community, and I am proud to be a part of this dynamic organization’s achievements and continued growth,” said Napolitano. “CHCI’s mission of empowering young people, the next generation of Latino leaders, is critical. I will work diligently to ensure success and expansion of our mission.”

Napolitano was first elected to Congress in 1998 and is currently serving her fourth term representing California’s 38th District. Her Los Angeles County-based district stretches from East Los Angeles to Pomona. Napolitano currently serves on the House Small Business and International Relations Committees, as well as the Resources Committee where she is the Ranking Member of the Water and Power Subcommittee.

“We could not be more pleased that Congresswoman Napolitano will be leading the CHCI Board of Directors,” said CHCI President and CEO Esther Aguilera. “This is such an important position within our organization, and Congresswoman Napolitano’s experience, knowledge, and commitment to the Hispanic community is unparalleled.”

Along with Napolitano’s appointment, CHCI elected three new Board officers. Art Ruiz of Washington, DC will assume the role of Vice-Chair, and Pat Pulido Sanchez of Illinois will take over as Secretary, while Richard Amador of California is the new Treasurer. In addition, CHCI appointed a new Executive Committee, which includes House Representatives Charlie Gonzalez of Texas, Luis Gutierrez of Illinois, and Ruben Hinojosa of Texas, as well as community leaders Ramon Bosquez of Florida and Ronnie Lopez of Arizona.

CHCI, a non-profit and non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization, provides educational programs for Hispanic college and postgraduate students. CHCI’s board of directors is comprised of Hispanic members of the U.S. Congress, non-profit sector leaders, and corporate executives.
