Partnering to Launch Best Practice in Employer-assisted Housing For Service Sector

Washington, D.C. –The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s (CHCI) national housing initiative, HOGAR (Spanish for ‘home’ and stands for Hispanic Ownership, a Growing American Reality), together with Rare Hospitality Inc. (Capital Grille parent), will host a breakfast homeownership event to promote a best practice model in employer-assisted housing.  This program is designed to encourage homeownership among its more than 1,000 service sector employees, in the D.C. metropolitan area.  HOGAR will also release its Best Practices for Latino Homeownership Brief, a valuable and comprehensive resource listing promising practices identified through fellows’ ongoing research.

“The significance of this event is that traditional employer-assisted housing programs have been used as a benefit to attract professional employees to their companies.  Rare Hospitality Inc., understanding the importance of hiring and retaining service sector employees, reached out to CHCI’s HOGAR to help implement this initial program that is expected to be the first of a series to take place in major metropolitan areas where Rare Hospitality Inc. employs a large concentration of Hispanics and other minorities,” said CEO and President, Esther Aguilera.

The morning’s event begins with remarks from CHCI Chair and California Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (CA-38), CHCI CEO and President Esther Aguilera, and Mr. Stephen Fedorchak, Regional Director, Capital Grille, emphasizing the importance of this partnership in expanding homeownership opportunities to Hispanics and other minorities, as well as all other service sector employees.

Home buying can be difficult for anyone.  Presentations by local housing companies and non-profit organizations will attempt to demystify the process.  They will highlight the homeownership programs available locally, the basics on buying and financing that include everything from where to buy, to the importance of good credit, and an assortment of financial options available to purchase a home.  The Best Practices for Latino Homeownership Report, released today, will be available for program participants.

The partnership of CHCI’s HOGAR and Rare Hospitality Inc. is the first effort in a sequence of programs to promote homeownership among Rare Hospitality’s employees in the D.C. metropolitan area and nationwide.  This partnership is a direct result of the findings listed in  HOGAR’s Best Practices for Latino Homeownership.

CHCI, a non-profit and non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization, provides educational programs for Hispanic college and postgraduate students. The CHCI board of directors is comprised of Hispanic members of Congress, non-profit leaders, and corporate executives.  For more information on CHCI, call 1-800-EXCEL DC or visit www.chci.org.
