New York is First Stop in CHCI’s Multi-City Outreach and Hurricane Relief SupportNielsen Media Research, SEIU 1199, Copacabana, Tonio Burgos & Associates, Inc. Top Contributors Washington, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) initiated its regional recruitment and fundraising efforts in the Tri-State area beginning with a student program at the City University of New York’s (CUNY) Graduate Center on 5th Avenue, and culminating with a fundraising reception and dinner at the Copacabana, on W. 34th Street. Dinner co-chairs are CHCI Chair, Honorable Grace Flores Napolitano (CA-38), Hon. Nydia Velazquez (NY-12), Hon. José Serrano (NY-16), and Hon. Robert Menendez (NJ-13). Over 500 dinner guests will join Members of Congress, CHCI Board Members, local elected officials, corporate executives and alumni from the region for a benefit dinner to support CHCI’s programs for Latino youth. CHCI will also be donating 25 percent of its proceeds raised from this event to the American Red Cross for hurricane relief efforts. “For over 25 years, CHCI has been providing youth leadership programs to develop the next generation of Latino leaders. To achieve our mission, CHCI visits various Latino communities nationwide to speak to students about these tremendous opportunities and grow our fundraising base. Thanks to the generous sponsor support, tonight’s event provides an opportunity to come together to support young Latino leaders. The next stops in our multi-city outreach will be Chicago and Los Angeles,” remarked Esther Aguilera, CHCI’s President and CEO. There was a tremendous response from corporations and organizations contributing over $130,000 of direct and in-kind contributions for CHCI’s dynamic programs. Top contributors included Nielsen Media Research, SEIU 1199, the Copacabana and Tonio Burgos & Associates, Inc. The evening’s VIP reception and dinner celebration, both taking place at the Copacabana, will conclude in grand fashion with entertainment by the Latin Giants, formerly the Tito Puente Band. In partnership with Yum! Brands, Inc. CHCI’s student programs are being presented in partnership with CUNY, and will include a discussion on leadership programs for Latino youth in Washington, D.C. CHCI Chair, Congresswoman Grace Flores Napolitano (CA-38) and CHCI Board Member, Congressman José E. Serrano (NY-16) will discuss CHCI’s highly acclaimed programs: the Public Policy Fellowship, Summer Internship, Annual Scholarship, and HOGAR Housing Fellowship. CHCI, a nonprofit and nonpartisan 501 (c)(3) organization, provides educational programs for Hispanic college and postgraduate students. The CHCI board of directors is comprised of Hispanic Members of Congress, nonprofit leaders, and corporate executives.
