CHCI Pledges Support to Victims of Hurricane KatrinaWashington, D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) announced today it will donate 25% of the proceeds raised from its October regional fundraising events in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago toward Katrina relief efforts, including the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The funds will be designated to help the victims, families and communities affected by Hurricane Katrina. CHCI raises funds year-round to support its internship, fellowship, scholarship programs and educational services. “In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, CHCI will dedicate a significant portion of our October event proceeds to assist the disaster relief efforts,” said CHCI president and CEO, Esther Aguilera. “Our Hispanic youth needs are with us throughout the year; however, Hurricane Katrina is a national disaster beyond comprehension that needs our attention today. We must pool our resources to assist in any way possible.” For over 25 years, CHCI, a nonprofit and nonpartisan 501 (c)(3) organization, has been dedicated to developing the next generation of Latino leaders. To fulfill its mission, CHCI provides nationally recognized educational and leadership programs for Hispanic college and postgraduate students. The CHCI board of directors is comprised of Hispanic Members of Congress, nonprofit leaders, and corporate executives. For more information on CHCI, call (202) 543-1771 or visit www.chci.org. ###
