CHCI’s HOGAR to Host Inclusionary Zoning SummitOrdinance adopted in more than 100 U.S. cities requires builders to set aside a percentage of housing units for low and moderate income families Washington, D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), the nation’s leading Hispanic educational nonprofit organization, today announced it will host an Inclusionary Zoning Summit, Friday, April 28, as part of its housing HOGAR initiative, a national campaign that seeks to ensure Hispanics have equal access to homeownership opportunities. The summit, led by keynote speaker David Rusk, former Mayor of Albuquerque, will help increase public awareness around Inclusionary Zoning, a housing ordinance adopted in more than 100 U.S. cities requiring builders to set aside a percentage of new housing development units for low and moderate income families.
CHCI’s HOGAR initiative, Spanish for Hispanic Ownership, a Growing American Reality, is sponsored by FannieMae, Countrywide Financial, Freddie Mac, State Farm, AMERIQUEST Mortgage Company, Chase, GE Consumer Finance, New Century Financial Corporation, OPTION ONE Mortgage, PMI, WELLS FARGO, Washington Mutual Home Loans and the MORTGAGE BANKERS ASSOCIATION. HOGAR has three complementary components: first, a fellowship program to increase the number of Hispanic leaders in the housing and financial fields; second, community housing events that both increase financial literacy and improve consumer understanding about the mortgage process; and three, research and policy analyses that address homeownership barriers Hispanics face and opportunities that exist to become homeowners.
