Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Hosts Roundtable “Recruiting and Retaining High Quality Teachers for Latino Students: Strategies for Success”

Congressman Grijalva, U.S. Department of Education, National Education Association, National Council of La Raza and Education Trust Officials to Discuss the Challenges of Recruiting and Retaining Teachers and the Upcoming Reauthorization of “No Child Left Behind”

Washington, D.C. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), the nation’s leading Hispanic educational nonprofit organization, today announced its Public Policy Fellows will host a roundtable on “Recruiting and Retaining High Quality Teachers for Latino Students: Strategies for Success,” Thursday, May 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the U.S. Capitol Building - Room HC-5.

Expert panelists, including Congressman Raúl Grijalva (AZ-7), U.S. Department of Education, National Education Association, National Council of La Raza and Education Trust Officials will discuss efforts to recruit and retain qualified teachers serving Latino students nationwide and the upcoming reauthorization of “No Child Left Behind.”

The Public Policy Fellowship roundtable, made possible with the support of The Coca-Cola Foundation, is part of CHCI’s Emerging Leaders’ Series to help address issues of importance to Hispanics.

CHCI’s nationally recognized nine-month Public Policy Fellowship, the nation’s first Hispanic Public Policy Fellowship Program, celebrates this year its 25th anniversary. The program offers 22 college graduate students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the public policy area of their choice with placements ranging from Capitol Hill, Federal Government, Nonprofit to Corporate America.

CHCI will also celebrate two additional milestones this year; the 20th anniversary of the Congressional Internship Program and the 5th anniversary of the Scholarship Program at its Public Policy Conference and 29th Annual Gala, October 2-4, coinciding with Hispanic Heritage Month.
