Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Public Policy Fellows Host Roundtable “Lost in Translation: Language Minorities and the Right to Vote”

Members of Congress, Department of Justice and Private Sector to discuss Effects of the Voting Rights Act and its Language Minority Provisions on Electoral Participation of Limited English Proficiency Groups

Washington, D.C.The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), the nation’s leading Hispanic educational nonprofit organization, today announced its Public Policy Fellows will host a roundtable on the effects of the Voting Rights Act and its language minority provisions, Section 203 and Section 4(f)(4), have on the electoral participation of limited English proficiency groups.

Expert panelists will discuss current Congressional efforts to reauthorize the Voting Right Act’s expiring sections, including the language minority provisions.

CHCI’s nationally recognized nine-month Public Policy Fellowship, the first fellowship program that began to develop the new generation of Hispanic policy leaders, celebrates this year its 25th anniversary.

CHCI will also celebrate two additional milestones; the 20th anniversary of the Congressional Internship Program and the 5th anniversary of the Scholarship Program at its Public Policy Conference and 29th Annual Gala, October 2-4, coinciding with Hispanic Heritage Month.
