12th Annual Fiesta de Golf: SCHOLARSHIP CHALLENGE

Join CHCI this year as special guest legendary golfer, Chi Chi Rodriguez, kicks off CHCI's first ever Scholarship Challenge at its 12th Annual Fiesta de Golf at Andrews Air Force Base on Monday, May 5.  Sponsors will have the opportunity to name scholarships for a minimum donation of $4,000.

Gathering avid golfers from across the nation, this event provides an opportunity for elected officials, national leaders, and CHCI supporters to interact socially while raising money for CHCI's Scholarship Program.

CHCI Fellows Help Make Latino Voices Heard Through Community Service Project

CHCI Fellows held a voter registration drive on Saturday April 26th at Carlos Rosario International Career Center in Washington, D.C., where more than 90 participants signed up to vote in the upcoming election. 

D.C. Councilmember Jim Graham (Ward-1) showed his support by giving remarks and donating two tickets to an upcoming DC United Game for raffle.  Local community members enjoyed games, food and entertainment as CHCI Fellows took a leadership role to ensure Latinos and minorities participate in the electoral process.

CHCI Alumni Association's Dream Scholarship Award Generates Unprecedented Response

The CHCI Alumni Association Dream Scholarship Award generated an impressive 324 online applications since its posting earlier this month. This new scholarship opportunity is geared specifically for first-generation immigrant students (not born in the U.S.) with excellent leadership potential who have a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities and who plan to continue contributing to the Latino community in the future.

The first Dream Scholarship awards will be presented in the fall of 2008 to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the CHCI-Alumni Association.

CHCI Announces 2008 Congressional Intern Class

CHCI is proud to announce the incoming class of 2008 Congressional Interns.  Scheduled to arrive the first week of June, the 2008 class promises to be another group of talented and eager young Latinos in Washington, D.C., to learn first hand how laws are made and how Congress works.

2008 Public Policy Fellow Roundtable Series

CHCI and its Graduate Fellows Esther Valle and Gabriel J. Alvarez held Roundtables discussing green affordable housing and corporate social responsibility earlier this month.

CHCI Public Policy Fellow Esther Valle, along with expert panelists, discussed the community and legislative impacts of developing green afforable housing in the Roundtable series entitled, "Green Affordable Housing: Is it the new standard for minority communities."

CHCI Public Policy Fellow Gabriel J. Alvarez led a panel discussion for his Roundtable entitled, "Corporate Social Responsibilty: A Paradigm Shift to Reflect a Changing America." CHCI Chairman Joe Baca (CA-43) gave remarks about transforming corporate social responsibility and the influential Latino representation within Fortune 500 companies.

CHCI's final Roundtable series addressing international trade policy will be moderated by CHCI Fellow M. Lucero Ortiz on May 14 at the U.S. Capitol Building, Room H-137.  For more information, click here.  Also, see the calendar of upcoming events in the right column.

Record Year for Applications!

This year's online application system generated a record breaking 2,000 scholarship applications and more than 9,000 students expressed interest in CHCI programs.
