CHCI Congressional Internship Program Brings Diversity to Capitol Hill

Twelve Latino Students from Across the Nation to Work in Congress Thanks to Walmart Support

CHCI welcomed the arrival of its third-ever Spring Congressional Internship class to Washington, D.C., on Monday, February 6, 2012.  Twelve undergraduates arrived from nine states to take part in the nationally-recognized and award-winning CHCI Congressional Internship Program (CIP).

“CHCI is committed to creating opportunities for young Latinos to come to Washington, D.C., and learn not only how the federal government operates, but how they can work to impact public policy for the betterment of their communities,” said Esther Aguilera, CHCI President & CEO.  More....


Applications for CHCI’s High School Latino Leaders in D.C. Program now available!

The 2012 CHCI High School Latino Leaders in D.C. program will take place in Washington, D.C. on July 22-27. Sponsored by State Farm Insurance Companies and held in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, the program brings high school students to Washington, D.C. to spend five days learning about how the Federal Government works, meeting important leaders, visiting historic sites, and developing a deeper understanding of how they can affect positive change in their communities and their nation.

CHCI has assembled an outstanding line-up of powerful Latino leaders to participate in Keeping the Promise:  Partnerships for Latino Education Success—CHCI’s education forum designed to foster an ongoing national dialogue focused on increasing educational attainment among young Latinos.

José Díaz-Balart, Telemundo news anchor, and Natalie Morales, news anchor on NBC’s TODAY, will moderate two sessions to begin a dynamic dialogue on critical education issues that have national significance.  CHCI has assembled an amazing group of thought leaders to address these issues.  Other invited special guests include:  Rep. José Serrano (NY), Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (NY) and Rep. Pedro Pierluisi (PR–At Large), international recording artist Frankie Negron, and award-winning actor Tony PlanaView the entire agenda.

As we celebrate “CHCI at 35:  Keeping the Founders’ Promise” this year, we will focus on our 35 years of impact to demonstrate how CHCI continues to fulfill our founders’ vision and CHCI’s mission to develop the next generation of Latino leaders®.  And what better way to start the celebration than with a new video series that highlights Latino leadership.  The inaugural episode of our Inside the Leader Studio features CHCI Chair Rep. Join CHCI and its partners at NBCUniversal's Studio 8H in 30 Rockefeller Plaza to participate in CHCI's Keeping the Promise:  Partnerships for Latino Education Success.  Education experts, advocates, and local and national elected officials will identify and discuss best practices to increase educational attainment for Latinos from K-16.  Panelists will also examine the unique education challenges facing young Latinos and the barriers to higher education attainment, and make recommendations since high school and college completion are essential pieces to protecting future U.S. economic health.  Learn more...
