CHCI's Scholarship Program provides critical financial assistance to Latino students for post-secondary education. Because college completion for young Latinos is imperative to maintaining the U.S. economic competitiveness and ensuring that our country's future workforce is prepared, CHCI is proud to offer scholarships to Latino students who have a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities and who demonstrate a desire to continue their civic engagement in the future. In response to today’s passing of Congressional Black Caucus Foundation chairman and colleague Rep. Donald M. Payne, CHCI Chair Charles A. Gonzalez released the following statement: “New Jersey has lost a great advocate and Congress has lost a valued peer. Donald worked on behalf of those among us who were the most in need, especially the working poor and children. His work to ensure educational opportunities for all American students will continue to reap benefits for generations. Donald will be greatly missed. His family is in my prayers.” |

The CHCI Programs department and the 2011-12 CHCI Graduate Fellows have announced the agenda for the annual Young Latino Leaders Summit Series. Scheduled for Monday, April 16, at the Rayburn House Office Building, the nine distinguished graduate fellows will moderate a public policy roundtable discussion on insightful and timely issues affecting the Latino community and the nation. This event is the culmination of the graduate fellows' public policy research project. Learn more and register to attend. |

Learn about two events designed to increase the educational attainment level of young Latinos. These events are part of CHCI's ongoing commitment to supporting the national goal of a 60 percent college graduation rate by 2030. Over 130 high school students from the Phoenix area gathered on February 11 at the South Mountain Community College campus to hear Rep. Ed Pastor speak about the opportunities that open up to those who pursue higher education degrees. The students were energized and motivated by the personal history that the Congressman shared. Despite his humble beginnings, he earned a law degree from Arizona State University and later became an elected official in Congress. (More) |

Twelve Latino Students from Across the Nation to Work in Congress Thanks to Walmart SupportCHCI welcomed the arrival of its third-ever Spring Congressional Internship class to Washington, D.C., on Monday, February 6, 2012. Twelve undergraduates arrived from nine states to take part in the nationally-recognized and award-winning CHCI Congressional Internship Program (CIP). “CHCI is committed to creating opportunities for young Latinos to come to Washington, D.C., and learn not only how the federal government operates, but how they can work to impact public policy for the betterment of their communities,” said Esther Aguilera, CHCI President & CEO.
