Cuidando Nuestros Niños: Early Childhood Education for Latinos
Moderated by Congressman Raul Grijalva (AZ-7), a member of the House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education, panelists addressed the need to improve the Headstart program, the largest early childhood education program in the nation.
This summit also explored workforce issues implicated in early childhood education, including training employees to be culturally and linguistically relevant, and the role of family literacy in improving the skills of parents and children in becoming literate for school and the workforce.
Dana Naimark, President and CEO of the Arizona Children's Action Alliance stated that, "we need to look at raising the bar in literacy" to make the programs stronger.
The lively discussion concluded with the notion of moving beyond K-12 education and shifting focus to 0-5 education.
