Veronica Duron, 24, didn't stop being a student when she graduated from the University of Texas in 2007. The San Antonio native spent a year working at a law firm and then came to the District as a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute fellow in 2008. Even as her fellowship turned into a full-time job on Capitol Hill in May, Duron said she's still learning.

CHCI Announces 2009 Medallion of Excellence Awardees

CHCI today announced renowned musician Lalo Guerrero and CNN anchor and special correspondent Soledad O'Brien as the 2009 Medallion of Excellence for Leadership and Community Service Award honorees at its 32nd Annual Awards Gala on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This year's theme is Latinos Leading in the Arts.

Los congresistas hispanos del Capitolio tendrán la oportunidad de dar a conocer su posición en los temas que enfrenta la comunidad a nivel nacional cuando la Conferencia de Políticas Públicas del Instituto del Caucus Hispano del Congreso (CHCI, por su sigla en inglés) comience este 13 de septiembre.
Será un evento especial, sin duda, ya que servirá además para celebrar los importantes pasos que han dado los latinos dentro de la vida cívica del país. Más notablemente, la confirmación a la Corte Suprema de la jueza Sonia Sotomayor.

Velázquez (NY-12), Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), today announced President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will attend CHCI's 32nd Annual Awards Gala on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. President Obama will address more than 2,000 guests commemorating CHCI's 32 years of serving the Latino community.

CHCI Announces New General Counsel

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) today announced Alicia Villarreal of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP as its new general counsel. She will serve as a non-voting board member and provide advice and counsel on board governance and legal matters to the Institute.
