More than 200 local high school students and mentors took part in CHCI’s Ready to Lead Dallas on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the University of Texas at Arlington, in the Dallas region. UT Arlington President, Dr. Vistasp M. Karbhari, started the event by officially welcoming R2L participants to the campus. This was followed by remarks from Joedis Avila from sponsor Ford Motor Company, who shared information about scholarships and the importance students continuing their education. Before heading to their workshops, students heard inspirational local radio personality Edgar “Shoboy” Sotelo who encouraged students to make the choice to be champions. Read more

CHCI is proud to announce its 2014 Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) theme, Building Our Future, Together, for its 2014 HHM events to be held September 30 - October 2 in Washington, D.C. This year’s theme and events reflect the growing strength of our community and the tremendous impact Latinos will have on the future success of America. CHCI is also exited to announce this year’s Gala entertainment performers, the multiple Grammy Award–winning Chicano rock band, Los Lobos. Their unique style combines musical elements from across the Americas in perfect harmony for a rocking good show as they celebrate their 40th anniversary! Read more

High School Students - Don't Miss Your Chance!

Applications are still open for high school students from specific cities can apply to CHCI’s 2014 R2L NextGen Program. This exciting civic engagement and leadership program brings 40 students from across the country to Washington, D.C. during the week of July 27- August 1, 2014. CHCI is pleased to announce that students from Camden, New Jersey and Chicago, Illinois are now able to apply to this exciting program! Applications from these two cities are due Tuesday, May 27. Have You Heard About CHCI's NextOpp?

CHCI is proud to announce the release of CHCI NextOpp, the new online version of the National Directory of Scholarships, Internships, and Fellowships for Latino Students. Since 2001, CHCI has published six editions of the Directory, the only publication in the United States that provided a comprehensive list of scholarships, internships, and fellowships targeting Latino youth. With the continuing support of State Farm Insurance, who began sponsoring the Directory's publication in 2008, we have replaced the printed directory with CHCI NextOpp -- a powerful, easy-to-use online database for students, parents, counselors, and education providers. CHCI Celebrates Its 18th Annual Fiesta de Golf Scholarship Challenge

On May 6, 130 golfers joined CHCI for a beautiful day of golfing during the 18th Annual Fiesta de Golf Scholarship Challenge, held at Renditions Golf Course. With the help of our guests, CHCI raised more than $240,000 in support of its Scholarship Program for Latino youth, which to date has invested nearly $4.8 million in scholarship awards to more than 13,000 students. Among the most noticeable players were golf pros—Senior PGA Champion Mike Reid and NFL Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz. CHCI sends a special thanks to all of its partners and supporters for making the event a huge success! Read more

CHCI Hosts the 2014 Joint Spring Graduation

On April 29, CHCI proudly celebrated the 2014 Joint Spring Graduation Ceremony, honoring the 2013-14 CHCI Graduate Fellows (GFP), Public Policy Fellows (PPF), and the 2014 CHCI Spring Congressional Interns (CIP). This year, a total of 38 future Latino leaders were treated to a wonderful ceremony held at the U.S. Library of Congress, to celebrate the completion of their respective program and their inclusion into the prestigious CHCI Alumni Association. The ceremony was attended by a variety of special guests. CHCI Chairman, Rep. Rubén Hinojosa and CHCI President & CEO, Esther Aguilera, opened the program with some remarks emphasizing the importance of higher education and perseverance. Read more

From April 8-9, the 2013-14 CHCI Graduate Fellows organized and moderated the 2014 Young Latino Leaders Summit Series (YLLSS). Experts from the fields of health, housing, education, law and STEM, gathered at the behest of the CHCI Fellows for a timely discussion on the issues that affect the Latino community. The first day of the summits, held at the Senate Visitor Center, featured Reps. Tony Cárdenas, Ted Deutch, Luis Gutierrez, Lucille Roybal-Allard, and CHCI Chair, Rubén Hinojosa, among the many expert panelists. Read more
