CHCI Announces New 2013-2014 Board Members

Rep. Rubén Hinojosa to Chair Nation’s
Leading Latino Youth Leadership Development Organization

CHCI today announced its new officers and members elected to its board of directors for the 2013-2014 term. Rep. Rubén Hinojosa of the Rio Grande Valley, TX, will chair its board of directors. Hinojosa was unanimously selected to lead CHCI for the next two years as the organization experiences continued growth in carrying out its mission to develop the next generation of Latino leaders.

“CHCI has a 35-year history of impacting the Latino community and preparing America’s future leaders,” said Hinojosa. “I look forward to expanding the great work of Rep. Charlie Gonzalez and all of our dedicated board members. As we saw in November, the Latino population will play a vital role in determining the future of America and CHCI’s work is to provide educational and leadership opportunities to ensure that future is a successful one.”

Rep. Hinojosa was first elected to Congress in 1996 and was elected in November to serve his ninth term as the representative of the 15th District of Texas. He currently serves on the House Education and Workforce Committee and Financial Services Committee. Hinojosa is regarded as a champion for the disadvantaged and has distinguished himself as a strong advocate for education, housing, and economic development in Congress.

“We could not be more pleased that Rep. Hinojosa will be leading the organization for the next two years,” said Esther Aguilera, CHCI President & CEO. “His commitment to education is well-documented and his passion for the Hispanic community reflects the type of leadership we need to continue impacting Latino youth for years to come.
