On Tuesday, April 23, CHCI honored the 2012–13 Graduate Fellows, Public Policy Fellows and 2013 Spring Congressional Interns during its joint graduation ceremony. In all, 33 future Latino leaders entered the Library of Congress for this momentous occasion, flanked by friends, family and colleagues.
Five Members of Congress, including Rep. Joaquin Castro, Grace Napolitano, Joe Garcia, José Serrano and Michelle Lujan-Grisham attended the event and provided some candid remarks to the graduating classes. Leading the program was our very own CHCI President & CEO, Esther Aguilera, along with CHCI’s Vice President of Programs, William Gil. In addition, Gil Valdes from New York Life and Adam Hemphill from Walmart participated in the program. However, the most heartfelt comments were provided the fellows and intern who gave farewell remarks for each class. This year, Jacquelyn Gonzalez gave the remarks on behalf of the Spring Interns, Jonathan Castaneda for the Public Policy Fellows and Aurelia De La Rosa Aceves on behalf of the Graduate Fellows.
The program concluded with the handing out of the program certificates and some closing remarks from Armando Guzman from Fundación Azteca America, who sponsored the New Alumni Reception immediately after. As we say goodbye to the latest class of program participants, we simultaneously welcome them to the CHCI Alumni Association and its robust network of Latino leaders throughout the country.
The CHCI 2013 Joint Graduation Ceremony and New Alumni Reception was made possible by the generous support of New York Life and Fundación Azteca America.
