CHCI Ready to Lead Kicks Off 2011 Programming in Phoenix!

CHCI held its Ready to Lead (R2L) Phoenix program on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at South Mountain Community College with 158 students in attendance and more than 20 mentors and volunteers.

The Associate Dean of Student Development for South Mountain Community College Raul Monreal and the Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost of Maricopa Community Colleges Dr. Maria Harper-Marinick, both the first in their family to go to college, welcomed the students.

Former Chivas USA player Claudio Suarez joined as part of VISA's Financial Literacy Soccer game. After a very successful "Mentoring Power Hour," Rep. Ed Pastor stopped by to share inspiring words with the students. The day closed with the first R2L Keynote by CHCI Alumnus Raul Magdaleno, who was a huge inspiration to students and adults.

CHCI Alumni Association Vice President Mildred Otero flew from DC and represented CHCI Alumni Association Board leveraging her time there to meet with alumni in the region to increase engagement in CHCI programs and also presented one of the leadership workshops. CHCI Alumni Andres Cano not only presented one of the leadership workshops but also recruited a large group of volunteers who stayed all day and were a huge help.

The Phoenix workshop was a great way to start the R2L year!
