Students in the Bronx are Ready to Lead (R2L)
Over 150 students and mentors joined CHCI for a tremendous day of leadership and learning at R2L New York, held on Saturday, November 23 at Lehman College in the Bronx.
In addition to their workshops on college planning, leadership, and financial literacy, participants had the opportunity to hear from two members of Congress. Rep. José Serrano addressed the students during the morning session and Rep. Charles Rangel joined the students for the start of the Mentoring Power Hour. Both leaders encouraged the students not to be bystanders, but to be leaders.
The day also included an impactful Mentoring Power Hour, connecting students with mentors from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Popular Community Bank, the CHCI Alumni Association, New York Life, the Hispanic National Bar Association, and many more. Sponsor Brian Doran of Popular Community Bank reminded students at the start of the activity that anyone can make excuses, but it takes a leader to identify and overcome obstacles.
CHCI Alum and speaker Raul Magdaleno closed out the day with his signature combination of humor and inspiration.
