Summer Interns Raise $20,000 in Support of CHCI Programs

Following the amazing fundraising efforts of the 2010-11 CHCI Fellows, who raised an unprecedented total of $8,000 this spring in support of CHCI programs, the 2011 CHCI Summer Interns participated in an inaugural telephone donation campaign on July 22.

Armed with their cell phones and powerful personal messages, the interns made more than 250 calls to prospective donors to raise money in support of CHCI and the program that the interns unanimously agreed has changed their lives forever.  During the two-hour session, the interns specifically promoted CHCI’s Hispanic Heritage Month Events and CHCI Intern Rebecca Jimenez secured $20,000 in conference registrations and gala ticket sales.

“One of the core tenets of CHCI’s Congressional Internship Program is the importance of giving back to the next generation of students,” said Linda Cotton Perry, Vice President of Development.  “Through this first-ever telethon, the 2011 Summer Interns were able to share their personal experiences with potential donors, impressing upon them the difference that CHCI has made in their lives.  Donors responded by pledging their support to CHCI.”

CHCI’s Hispanic Heritage Month Events are one of the primary ways that CHCI funds its award-winning programs and services offered throughout the year.  Invest in the future of America by making a difference in the lives of young Latino leaders.  Register now to attend CHCI’s Public Policy Conference, 34th Annual Awards Gala, and the Reyes of Comedy.  Or, if you cannot attend September’s events, consider a donation to the Keeping the Promise campaign.
