Grant supports Congressional Internship Program and Graduate Law Fellowship
CHCI formally announced today that it has received a $600,000 grant from the Ford Foundation to support its Semester Congressional Internship Program and its Graduate Fellowship Program. Specifically, Ford Foundation’s support will allow CHCI to double the number of Congressional Internships during the Spring and Fall Semesters over the next two years and will also fund a Graduate Law Fellow in the 2014-2015 CHCI Fellowship class. Foundation Awards More than $560,000 Since 2009
NEW YORK, October 8, 2013 – CHCI announced today a three year, $240,000 grant from the New York Life Foundation to support the CHCI’s award-winning Public Policy Fellowship Program. The program offers up to 20 recent college graduates of Hispanic descent from across the country the opportunity to complete a nine month paid fellowship and gain real world work experience at the national level in the public policy area of their choice. Fellows can work in international affairs, economic development, education policy, housing, or local government in Washington, D.C.
“Without the New York Life Foundation’s support, deserving Latino students would not have been able to afford the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of spending nine months in Washington, D.C., the center of the world for public policy,” said Esther Aguilera, CHCI president and CEO. “The Fellows are exposed to a well-rounded curriculum that makes an indelible impression on their future careers.” More...

CHCI Chair Rep. Rubén Hinojosa announced today that President Barack Obama, joined by First Lady Michelle Obama, will address the largest Latino gala in the country at CHCI's 36th Annual Awards Gala on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This marks five of the past six years President Obama has addressed the CHCI Gala, going back to when he was a presidential candidate in 2008.

CHCI welcomed the arrival of eleven Public Policy Fellows (PPF), eight Graduate Fellows (GFP), and 24 Fall Congressional Interns (CIP), making this the largest group of fall program participants in the history of the organization. Specifically, this will be the largest-ever class of Fall interns, thanks to a new grant from the Ford Foundation. In total, 43 college students and recent graduates from 19 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico are taking part in the nationally recognized and award-winning leadership programs focused on developing the next generation of Latino leaders.
