On December 13, CHCI and the CHCI Alumni Association, together with Teach For America, National Hispanic Leadership Agenda and National Association for Latino Elected Officials, hosted a reception in Los Angeles with Latino area professionals and leaders at downtown’s LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes to promote the Presidential Appointments Initiative and to encourage CHCI Alumni to apply for leadership roles. CHCI President and CEO, Esther Aguilera opened the evening with a warm welcome.

On hand to deliver some inspirational words were Nathalie Rayes, Director of Public Relations for Grupo Salinas/Azteca America Foundation, and Dayna Mauricia, Vice President of External Affairs and Diversity Strategy for Southern California at Teach for America, both proud sponsors of the evening’s event and supporters of CHCI’s Alumni Association.

Closing the program was Melody Gonzales of National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, who delivered a powerful call for support for NHLA’s Presidential Appointments Project, which aims to encourage and promote talented Latino candidates for political appointment positions at the state and federal level. In support and solidarity with these efforts, CHCI/CHCI Alumni Association launched its own Presidential Appointments Initiative in 2013 to encourage CHCI Alumni to apply for leadership roles, serve our nation as leaders in their communities, and to identify other qualified Latino talent as potential candidates for these national positions.

The CHCI Latino Leadership Networking Reception was made possible with the support of Azteca América, Teach for AmericaNational Hispanic Leadership Agenda, and National Association for Latino Elected Officials.
